If you have extra, unwanted fat in certain areas, you really have a whole array of options for getting rid of it. On the most invasive end, you have traditional liposuction, and on the non-invasive end, you have procedures that promise to freeze the fat away. Right in the middle, though, there's a fat reduction option that truly deserves your serious consideration. It's called Smart Lipo. It's a bit more invasive than traditional liposuction but it's not nearly as traumatic. Here's a closer look at what Smart Lipo involves and why it's a good choice.

Smart Lipo doesn't apply a lot of vacuum suction to remove fat.

Traditional liposuction applies vacuum pressure to an area to basically suction the fat out. This works, but it causes a lot of bruising and soreness in the days following treatment. Smart Lipo is, by comparison, much gentler because it does not use such extreme suction. The device used to carry out the procedure first melts or liquefies the fat, which makes it easier to remove from your body with minimal suction. As a result, you'll have less soreness and a shorter recovery time.

Smart Lipo does physically remove the fat.

Non-invasive body fat removal techniques rely on your body's own systems to remove the fat. Some, for instance, freeze the fat cells in hopes that this will trigger your body to then get rid of them. This generally works, to a certain degree, but it's always hard to know just how effective it will be for any patient. The results of Smart Lipo are much more predictable because the procedure itself physically removes fat from the body. The results will be apparent as soon as your post-procedure swelling goes down, which should only take a few days.

Smart Lipo does not require general anesthesia.

Some of the biggest risks associated with traditional liposuction have to do with the fact that it requires general anesthesia. People often have side effects, like nausea, due to anesthesia alone. Smart Lipo can be done with a local anesthetic only, which s much safer. The area being worked on will be numb, but you'll remain awake. This is safer, and it is a lot less intimidating for most patients, too!

Smart Lipo is a great choice for fat reduction. It's safer and less traumatic than traditional liposuction, and it's more effective than non-invasive methods. Talk to a cosmetic surgeon to learn more.
